Strong commercial response to regional fairs
MANILA, November 9, 2022: Regional travel shows report record sales and results according to the latest assessment from the Tourism Promotion Council as the tourism industry in the Philippines begins its recovery.
Just weeks after a successful participation in the Philippine Travel Exchange (PHITEX) 2022, TPB recorded record sales estimated at PHP 83 million at the 10th Regional Travel Trade Show (RTF) held from October 27-30, 2022 at Nuvali, Sta. Rose, Lagoon.
The annual regional travel shows are organized by the TPB, the marketing and promotions arm of the Department of Tourism (DOT). This year’s 8th and 9th Regional Travel Shows generated an increase of PHP 45,452,000 (120%) and PHP 27,360,000 (49%), respectively. The strong selling trends continued with the 10th RTF last week.
“For the 10th Regional Travel Show, we focused on Calabarzon, a region that has shown significant resilience throughout crucial times in our nation’s development,” said DOT Undersecretary Atty. Mae Elaine Bathan. She delivered the event’s keynote address on behalf of Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco.
Regional Travel Shows began in 2018 to sell national tour packages by showcasing the rich culture, heritage and products offered by the host regions with the backing and support of regional DOT offices, local governments and private stakeholders.
TPB’s Chief Operating Officer, Maria Margarita Montemayor Nograles, said, “All of these initiatives aim to revitalize the tourism industry in the country and introduce innovations and ideas that not only transform but also enhance the experience. of travel as a whole”.
The four-day hybrid edition of RTF with “#DiscoverCALABARZON” began with a half-day on-site and online tourism forum on best practices in tourism operations. This was followed by a full day of face-to-face business-to-business sessions with 48 sellers from the IV-A region and 47 buyers and 27 sellers/exhibitors from elsewhere in the Philippines.
The 10th Regional Travel Show was held in partnership with IV-A Region Tourism Department and Ayala Malls in cooperation with Calabarazon, Technopark Hotel and Cebu Pacific Air Provinces.
