Raj tribal women empowerment story scenario selling herbal gulal
Jaipur, March 13: Udaipur Holi marked the whole world for the great celebrations of the royal family of old. However, this year the celebration will focus on women empowerment, which has been scripted by the tribal women themselves, who are engaged in making and marketing herbal and flower based gulal.
A silent revolution is underway in the tribal town of Kotda, Rajasthan, Udaipur district, where the expert hands of tribal women are crafting this unique gulal using beetroot for red color, rose flower for pink, the palash flowers for the color yellow, etc.
Self-help women’s groups in the remote tribal area are working hard to ensure that their herbal gulal made from forest products reaches tourists who visit Udaipur to celebrate Holi.
In fact, Rajasthani Grameen Aajivika Vikas Parishad made special gift baskets which were displayed on stalls set up in shopping malls, tourist spots and cooperative markets so that tourists who throng to these places would take away the most popular products. rarer at home to make sure they deliver the message of a chemical-free Holi.
Suman Ajmera, District Project Manager, Rajasthan Grameen Aajivika Vikas Parishad, Udaipur, Rajsamand said, “Women from Jhadol and Kotda tribes make this herbal gulal from flowers. Now we aim to give maximum benefits to these women by selling their products. We also aim for more people to join the campaign to play herbal holi.
“We have prepared special attractive gift baskets for the Holi Festival, which are made available to various government organizations, businesses and others at subsidized rates so that the colors of these tribal women’s skills can reach the country and the world. with these gift baskets.
“While launching these gift baskets and posters, we called upon various government, industrial, commercial, social organizations and interested members of the general public to make these tribal herbal gulal gift baskets for this Holi “, she added.
Suryaveersinh Rathod, District Manager, Rajeevika Udaipur said these herbal gulal packets and gift baskets are available in the range of Rs 120 to Rs 500 which can be obtained from any counter settled in the city.
The district administration has set up counters at various tourist places in the city of Udaipur via Rajivika with a view to providing reasonable prices for the products made by these tribal women. Along with this, herbal gulal sachets and gift baskets are also made available at consumer stores in the cooperative department.
Places frequented by tourists including Tribes India Showroom, Rajivika Office, Saheliyon Ki Bari, Pratap Gaurav Kendra, Karni Mata Ropeway, Maharana Pratap Memorial Moti Magri, Fish Aquarium Fatehsagar, Lok kala Mandal. etc., display the colorful packages of Gulal.
The idea behind the mission is that people should know the ancient history of making gulal, they should use the herbal products on this Holi which will also promote the idea of Atmanirbhar Bharat. We have organized stalls at tourist spots, malls and different places to ensure these women have a regular income, Suman said.
The process of making this herbal gulal is quite simple. The flowers are picked and boiled in hot water. After cooling and grinding it in a blender, aromatic extracts are added and herbal gulal is prepared. The women mix the extracts with their hands before grinding and then pack the gulal into packets.
In other words, the herbal gulal is prepared from flowers picked by hand by the women in the self-help group. The product is promoted by district collector and CEO Zila Parishad. (IANS)
