MIHAS 2022 exceeds target and generates RM2.36 billion in sales

Kuala Lumpur – The 18th edition of the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2022, organized by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), under the patronage of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), has again delivered a record-breaking showcase, generating a total of RM2.36 billion in sales, beating its original target of RM1.9 billion.

Of the total, exhibitor sales recorded RM1.65 billion from the showcase, while RM714.7 million was generated through the International Sourcing Program (INSP), comprising of pre-arranged B2B meetings conducted physically and virtually in conjunction with MIHAS 2022. The highest total sales were recorded by financial services, agricultural products, ready meals, beverages as well as palm oil products.

The INSP MIHAS, organized jointly with the MIHAS 2022, was organized according to a hybrid approach. A total of 264 Malaysian exporters and 192 overseas buyers from 33 countries attended the physical INSP while 226 Malaysian exporters and 197 overseas buyers from 48 countries attended the virtual INSP. Five premium buyers from India, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United States were also physically brought in to meet Malaysian exporters. A total revenue of RM714.70 million was recorded, comprising RM650.22 million from physical INSP and RM64.48 million from virtual INSP.

Following the success of MIHAS 2022, MATRADE has announced that next year’s edition of the world’s largest Halal showcase, MIHAS 2023, will be held from September 12-15, 2023 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Center (MITEC). MIHAS 2022 included four key elements, namely the Showcase, INSP, Knowledge Hub and MIHAS Awards.

The MIHAS 2022 showcase saw strong attendance from industry players from 33 countries, including Malaysia, with a total of 1,258 booths occupied throughout the four days of the exhibition from September 7-10, 2022. On this In total, Malaysian exhibitors occupied 1,049 (83.4%) of the total booths while the remaining 209 booths (16.6%) were occupied by international exhibitors. The most represented countries were Kuwait (33 stands), Indonesia (24 stands), Thailand (24 stands), South Africa (19 stands) and Palestine (14 stands).

The total number of visitors was 32,356, comprising 20,334 physical participants and 12,022 virtual participants. YBhg. Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz further explained that the support from the business community was overwhelming due to MATRADE’s decision to organize the 18th edition of the event (MIHAS 2022) in a hybrid format, offering both physical and virtual approaches following the achievements of the virtual MIHAS 2021. “The results exceeded our initial targets and MIHAS 2022 was the best edition organized to date. having attended the event virtually,” he said.

Complementing the networking aspect of MIHAS, the knowledge sharing component hosted under the Knowledge Hub program attracted the interest and participation of over 1,500 delegates. Participants were represented by both Malaysian and international companies in various Halal industry clusters. After winning the World Trade Promotion Organizations (WTPO) award last year, MATRADE has stepped up its digitization efforts with the launch of a virtual learning platform, MATRADE Digital Learning (MDL). The platform was chaired by Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri bin Yaakob during MIHAS 2022. The prestigious MIHAS awards returned this year.
