Global Gmarket Sales Rise During Chuseok Promotion

Gmarket said on Thursday that its global in-store sales in this year’s Chuseok promotion, which ended on Tuesday, were up from last year thanks to a wider selection of items on sale and more discount coupons.

Gmarket’s global store, which sells to around 80 countries through its English and Chinese websites, said its household goods sales jumped 110% from the previous Mega G-Festival, and sales of books and records had climbed more than 30%.

Sales of cosmetics and children’s items also increased.

By country, Thailand saw the strongest year-on-year growth of 243%, while sales in the United States also increased by more than 40%.

In addition to major brands such as Amore Pacific, Etude, Koreana, CJ Cheil Jedang and CKD Healthcare, around twenty small and medium-sized businesses in the fashion, beauty and life categories participated in the Mega G-Festival.

Gmarket said it is offering huge shipping cost discounts of up to 83% in Hong Kong, showing the highest demand on the global store, up to 94% in the US, 45% in Thailand and 86% in Taiwan.

Mega G is a chance for overseas shoppers to purchase the bestselling Korean items at exceptionally low prices, and Gmarket’s global store accepts payments by overseas credit cards, PayPal, and Alipay. Orders placed from abroad are grouped together in local warehouses for delivery.
