ROCHESTER — In an effort to help boost local restaurant sales this month, the Rochester DDA is hosting its second annual February Foodie.

The promotion, which kicked off Feb. 1 and runs through the end of the month, encourages customers to dine in or take out at any restaurant in downtown Rochester and save their receipts for a chance to win. Win restaurant gift cards and “Love Local Rochester” giveaways every week of February.

Foodie February empowers the community to support downtown restaurants and be rewarded in the process, according to Jenna O’Dell, events coordinator for the Rochester Downtown Development Authority.

“Last year, during the pandemic, our restaurants were closed for the festive season, with takeout and limited dining capacity only in February, so this was our chance to give some attention to our restaurants,” she said.

The promotion was so well received that the DDA decided to bring her back.

“We had such a great response and great feedback from that, with over hundreds of entries last year, so it was obvious we were going to bring it back this year,” she said.

Throughout the month of February, customers simply purchase an item, meal or takeout from any of the participating restaurants for a chance to win a number of prizes.

La Boulangerie Maison is one of many downtown businesses participating in the promotion. Owner Heather Tocco said some of the bakery’s most popular items this month include Valentine Kronuts, hot coke bombs and oversized cupcakes, and every purchase is eligible for a contest entry.

“The community has been absolutely amazing with us throughout the pandemic. I am so grateful every day,” Tocco said. “I feel like we’re busier now than we’ve ever been, and I think that’s because people are actively buying more locally and thinking about small businesses.

Receipts from any of the participating restaurants can be brought to Downtown Collaboration Studio, 431 S. Main St., through Feb. 28. Shoppers also have the option of texting their entries to (866) 603-4005 along with a photo of their receipts. .

Each receipt will receive one entry, eligible for both the weekly draws and the grand prize. Three grand prize winners – of a $500, $250 or $100 meal plan – will be announced and contacted on Tuesday, March 21.
