AirAsia Malaysia and Penang Global Tourism (PGT) are collaborating to make Penang a preferred tourist destination in the region. According to AirAsia, Penang is likely to see an increase in tourist numbers as it brings the region closer to the state with 184 weekly flights as a group. Resuming its pre-pandemic regularity, AirAsia launched several routes, including two new domestic routes from Kota Bharu and Sibu to Penang.

With a combined total of seven domestic routes and six international routes, AirAsia will not only encourage locals and foreign travelers to visit Penang, but will expand tourism promotion through its super airasia app with promotional offers on airasia cuisine, transportation airasia, hotels, SNAP and others. services.

Last December, Penang State Tourism first launched its “Experience Penang” campaign to attract domestic and international visitors to its shores. The advertisements are featured on the Cosmic Towers LED screen signs at the KL Sentral-NU Sentral junction and the Giant Cube located opposite Lot 10 Mall. These locations were chosen based on the reputation of downtown KL as the country’s main tourist hub and to maximize the campaign’s efforts to attract domestic and international tourists to Penang. The advertisements remind visitors of the state’s attractions, from its two UNESCO-designated sites which are the UNESCO World Heritage Site of George Town and the recently recognized Penang Hill UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, original street art, legendary street food, 130 million years old. pristine rainforest and various natural landscapes of hills and beaches.

In March this year, Penang was announced to have its own creative digital district, known as CD2@George Town. Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yow said the state’s ambition was to attract more investment in digital services and software to boost the state’s digital ecosystem.

“In line with our Penang2030 vision, CD2@George Town aims to revive the urban core through the fusion of heritage and digital,” he added. To meet the growing demand for access and speed amid digitalization, CD2 @ George Town will have 5G network infrastructure, enabling nearby businesses and communities to benefit from high-speed internet . In line with Penang’s digital transformation plan, it will also launch CD2 Sandbox, to house start-ups, accelerators and incubators in its unique heritage and modern environment.

Apart from being Chief Minister, Chow is also Chairman of Digital Penang. Digital Penang is a government-linked company that started operations in April 2020 to accelerate efforts to seize opportunities in the digital economy and promote a digitally engaged society.

Over the next three years, Digital Penang aims to attract 50 digital investors to CD2@George Town with an investment commitment of 2,000 high-income jobs, the company said. Currently, eight companies have expressed their commitment and intention to establish the center. The eight companies are Angkasa-X, BlueSkies, Censof, CTAPPS, Finexus, Karuna Sarawak, Securemetrics and TriAset.
