AAP Caught Selling MCD Poll Tickets
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday (November 21st) released a video shot by a volunteer from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Rohini, Northwest Delhi, exposing the sale of tickets for the municipal elections by the AAP.
The sting was shot by AAP volunteer, Bindu, who according to the video was asked to pay Rs 80 lakh for an AAP ticket from Rohini ward 54D for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) polls.
In the two videos released, Bindu is seen discussing the payment of the money with some channels of AAP leaders including its North West Delhi Lok Sabha Officer, RR Pathania, and the Constituency Coordinator of the AAP. Assembly of Rohini, Punish Goel.
Another person appearing in one of the videos, Dinesh Saraf, who claimed to be related to Rajya Sabha AAP MP Sushil Gupta and Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel, is also part of the “team of collecting money” from the party.
In the first video, Goel and Saraf ask Bindu to submit the full amount of Rs 80 lakh in one go so that his name can be included in the list of names they would recommend to the party ticket decision committee. Goel says only when the full amount is submitted will the committee consider his name for ticket distribution.
In the second sting, Bindu is in a car with Pathania, whom she approaches to confirm details shared by Goel. In the video, Pathania calls Goel “her man” and admits introducing him to the party’s senior leadership. Pathania also pushes Bindu to do as Goel says.
According to Goel and Pathania, the list of candidates who submitted their money would then go to the five-member Political Affairs Committee (PAC). This includes AAP Minister Gopal Rai, MPs Durgesh Pathak, Saurabh Bhardwaj and Atishi as well as Adil Khan.
Videos also pass AAPs modus operandi of “sale of tickets” which include the delimitation of the zones of influence as well as the definition of the mode of collection in cash and check.
BJP National Spokesperson Sambit Patra called it “the mother of all undercover operations” and recalled the days when AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal told his party’s volunteers to carry out attacks against anyone who engaged in corruption.
Bindu, he said, had followed in Kejriwal’s footsteps and revealed the true face of the party.
Rohini BJP MP Vijender Gupta alleged that AAP leaders also sold tickets in the 2020 Assembly polls and demanded an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB).
